What are your published works, and what are you working on?

I have a lot going on right now. I’ve relaunched my first zombie trilogy, Forget the Zombies, with all new covers and released a boxset of the series, which has become a personal bestselker. I’m also currently in the editing stage of the fourth book in my Books the Dead series, Into the Deadlands, and am writing book 5, Dead End. I also have my first non-zombie trilogy coming out soon. It’s a thriller series about bio-terrorism.

If someone was just hearing about you for the first time what 1 thing would you want them to know?

I love writing. Unfortunately, I have to fit it in around a day job, but I’m passionate about storytelling.

Did you always want to be a writer?

I think wanting to be a paleontologist beat out wanting to be a writer as my first childhood wish as a vocation, but writing came up a close second. I wrote short stories in high school and even started a novel (that never made it past chapter 3). I then got somewhat diverted when I went to film school. That didn’t mean I wasn’t writing, but more for the visual arts. That diversion lasted a couple decades, but stories kept popping up in my head. I started a novel in 1999 and it only took me seven years to complete it. It was a mystery novel. In 2008, I got it out to beta readers and it wasn’t a positive experience. I went back in my shell for almost three years (still writing short stories I kept in my “virtual desk drawer.” In 2012, I switched gears and started writing horror, with some mystery and crime mixed in, but focused on short stories. I got my first story published online in November of 2012 and the door was opened. Several more of my stories were published online and in print anthologies and a publisher approached me on Facebook. I self-publish a zombie novella and had a long zombie short story in the works. They asked me to make it a novel and that became my first zombie novel. It morphed into a series. The rest is history.

What has been the biggest adventure of your life?

I would have to say parenthood. Those first ten years of my daughters lives was a joy, but boy, those teenage years. After that, I would have to say having a writing career is a very close second.

If zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow would you be prepared?

I have enough food to probably go two month. Weapons are another story. I live in a rather large city, so I feel I’m working at a disadvantage.

What 3 things do you feel everyone should have to be ready for a survival situation?

Attitude

Water

Weapons

Who would you want with you if civilized society fell apart?

A survivalist with a military background or William Shatner. Who wouldn’t want Captain Kirk by your side when the SHTF?

What 2 books would be in your bug out bag, knowing you would have to read them over and over?

Edible plants guide and a book on basic medical treatment. If I could take one work of fiction, it would probably be Stephen King’s The Stand.

If we were thrown into the dark ages what would you miss most?

Hot water. Chocolate.

What is the most surprising fact about you?

I have a twin brother. We sometimes make short films together.
