If someone was just hearing about you for the first time what 1 thing would you want them to know?
My focus on my books is primarily on the human interactions that happen to small groups of people in stressful situations. My Zombie Killers series, for example, is about a small unit after the Zombie Apocalypse has happened. The undead are merely a plot device.
Did you always want to be a writer?
Not particularly. I got into as a challenge from my girlfriend.
What has been the biggest adventure of your life?
Being a parent. My tour in Iraq pales in comparison.
If zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow would you be prepared?
Well, I’ve got about 400 rounds of 22 LR and the will and experience to use it. So sure!
What 3 things do you feel everyone should have to be ready for a survival situation?
Well, a willingness to work with others to cooperate and figure things out. It’s what makes humans the top species on the planet. A knowledge of agriculture. Ruthlessness.
Who would you want with you if civilized society fell apart?
My girlfriend, who is a nurse and knows far more about growing food and animals than I ever dreamed of. And Chuck Norris, of course.
What 2 books would be in your bug out bag, knowing you would have to read them over and over?
A soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin, and the complete works of JRR Tolkien.
If we were thrown into the dark ages what would you miss most?
Modern medicine. It keeps me alive.
What is the most surprising fact about you?
I really have no idea what I’m doing.
